Writer's Block: Supersize me

Have you ever boycotted a company or product? If so, what was it, and what caused you to boycott it?

Oh yes. I passionately boycott the Florida Lottery because people voted it in to raise money for the schools and make them better. But as soon as the lottery passed, the governor said they were getting that money now, so for every lottery dollar the schools get, the government takes away a government dollar that the schools had been getting. I don't live in Florida anymore, but I still wouldn't buy a lottery ticket. Course... I don't think they noticed. :|

Writer's Block: Good Morning Heartache

What is something you worry about everyday? How long has it been plaguing you? Do you think you'll ever overcome it?

Oh, that is so easy to answer. I worry about never being able to get published as an author. I don't want to do some POD thing or vanity press. I want to be published for writing something good. And no, I don't really think I'll ever get over it. I haven't given up but even if I managed to get something published, I'll just switch to worrying I'll never get another published. :P

Writer's Block: Acquired taste

What is your favorite weird food combination? Have your friends ever tried it or do you only eat it in private?

Oh, that would be "sour meat." It's pickled beef, a recipe my mother invented after a discussion with a friend. The meat is pickled rather than cooked, so a lot of people raise eyebrows at it. And yeah, I have a few friends who have tried it, (and liked it), but I mostly eat it in private to avoid those eyebrows. :P

Writer's Block: Father nature

What is your fondest childhood memory of your father or grandfather?

View 1445 Answers

Oh, so many wonderful memories. One that comes to mind is when I was young and we were having a water war that lasted for weeks. He had turned on the hose and then went to get my attention, luring me after him. I chased him all right, and skidded to a stop when he picked up the hose - a far mightier weapon than my squirt gun. But wait!! What's this? OH NO!! It had taken him too long to lure me there and the well had run dry. All he had was a pitiful trickle, so I was able to unload my full water pistol against him because he was now helpless. The best part was how hard he laughed at his own predicament.

Writer's Block: Family Is…

What does family mean to you?

Family is who you turn to when you need help. They're the ones that are always there for you - and you're always there for them, regardless of whether it's convenient or not. When the phone rings and it's family, I'm glad and relieved it isn't something boring or annoying.

Writer's Block: Money in the Bank

How do you keep your finances on track? Are there any online tools you use to keep track of what you’re spending and where? When was the last time you were caught off guard (pleasantly or not-so-much) when you checked your bank account balance?

I don't have much and I don't spend much so it's easy to keep track. No online "tools," just my bank account.

Writer's Block: BFFs

If you had to pick a character from your favorite TV show back in middle school to be your best friend today, who would you choose, and why? Have you outgrown some of the characters you loved when you were an early adolescent?

Oh man, now you guys are dating me. I have to look up what was even on back then. Looking at lists of shows, I guess I'd have to say that my favorite show back then was Baretta. I liked Baretta. He was always having adventures, and he was a nice guy. Fred was cool too.

Writer's Block: Are you incentivized?

Are there any buzz words or catch-phrases--such as incentivize or at the end of the day--that make you cringe? What are they, and why do you hate them?

Oh, no - I get a kick out of goofy words. I always loved James Thurber's writing and the words that he used to invent. Just because a word "isn't a word" doesn't mean it couldn't be. In fact, slang is one of the ways in which language evolves over time. For istance, given sufficient time, ain't may well become accepted as a real word rather than improper slang. (Improper grammar, on the other hand, such as the double negative "Ain't gonna do no work today," will remain improper because the literal meaning is backwards.)
